From estonian roots to asian innovation: my first global mobility conference as a founder.

Updated: Feb 19

A personal reflection from our founder

As I prepare for my journey to Colombo, Sri Lanka, for the upcoming IMA Conference, I find myself reflecting on the beautiful synchronicity of my path. From the quiet countryside of Estonia to the vibrant shores of Sri Lanka, each step of my global mobility journey has been about building bridges between worlds.

The IMA Conference isn't just another industry event for me – it represents a pivotal moment in MyExpatGo's story. As someone who has lived the expatriate experience across continents, I understand deeply what it means to seek connection in new places. This understanding has shaped every aspect of how we're building MyExpatGo starting in Malaysia, and now, it's guiding us toward meaningful partnerships across Asia.

Why IMA Matters in Global Mobility

The International Mobility Alliance (IMA) embodies something I've always believed in: the power of genuine collaboration. In an industry that's rapidly digitalizing, IMA stands out by fostering human connections that span continents. Their network brings together not just moving companies and relocation professionals, but a complete ecosystem of services – from pet relocation specialists to fine arts experts – all united by a commitment to excellence in global mobility.

Where Innovation Meets Impact

Having attended the IMA Conference twice before, I've witnessed something remarkable under Patricia Jade Ooi's leadership. Patricia embodies what I love most about our industry - the ability to blend technological innovation with genuine human connection. Her incredible attention to detail transforms what could be just another industry gathering into a catalyst for meaningful relationships and positive change.

What strikes me most about Patricia's approach is how she weaves purpose into every aspect of the conference. Like my homeland Estonia, which transformed itself through digital innovation while preserving its cultural heart, IMA under Patricia's guidance demonstrates how technology can enhance rather than replace human connection.

The conference's Partner4Partner (P4P) system is a perfect example of this philosophy. In an age where digital tools often create distance, P4P does the opposite - it brings people together with intention and purpose. Through carefully matched meetings based on mutual goals and complementary strengths, it creates the foundation for lasting partnerships. As someone who has experienced both sides of global mobility, I appreciate how this thoughtful approach ensures every conversation has the potential to create real value.

Beyond Business: Making a Difference

But what truly sets the IMA Conference apart is its commitment to the communities it touches. In our industry, we often talk about impact in terms of business metrics, but Patricia and the IMA team understand that true success extends beyond balance sheets. Each conference location becomes an opportunity to give back, creating ripples of positive change that extend far beyond our professional network.

This year in Colombo, we'll have the privilege of not just discussing global mobility, but actively contributing to local initiatives. It's a powerful reminder that while our industry facilitates global movements, our real impact happens at the local level, one community at a time.

A Personal Journey

My own journey mirrors many of the transitions I've helped facilitate over the years. I remember leaving Estonia at sixteen, carried forward by determination and curiosity. Each move since then – through Ireland, the UK, and Canada – has added layers to my understanding of what makes a successful relocation. It's never just about moving boxes; it's about moving lives, dreams, and aspirations.

Building Bridges Through Technology

What excites me most about this gathering is the opportunity to share how we're reimagining relocation services through technology. Coming from Estonia, a country that has transformed itself into a digital pioneer, I've seen firsthand how technology can break down barriers while preserving human connections. Now, through MyExpatGo, we're bringing this same spirit of innovation to Malaysia and beyond.

A Vision for Partnership

At the conference, I'm looking forward to connecting with potential partners who share our commitment to transforming the relocation experience. The IMA network, with its diverse membership spanning moving services, destination support, pet relocation, and more, represents exactly the kind of holistic approach we believe in at MyExpatGo.

We're seeking partners who understand that while technology can streamline processes, it's the human touch that transforms a move into an adventure. Partners who, like us, believe that every relocation is a story waiting to be told, and every challenge is an opportunity for innovation. Looking Forward

As I prepare for my third IMA Conference - this time as a founder rather than an attendee - I'm struck by how this gathering reflects my own journey. From my early days leaving Estonia to founding MyExpatGo in Malaysia, every step has been about bridging worlds and creating meaningful connections. Patricia's vision for IMA embodies this same spirit - using technology to bring people together while never losing sight of our human impact.

This isn't just another conference - it's a testament to how far we've all come and a glimpse of where we're headed. In Colombo, we'll write new chapters of connection and impact, proving that when we combine technological innovation with human empathy, remarkable things happen.

With gratitude from the journey,

Mari Juk

"Like the Estonian forests I grew up with, every journey has its seasons of growth. Join me in writing the next chapter of global mobility - one that bridges digital innovation with human connection."

P.S. Looking forward to connecting with fellow IMA members in Colombo through the P4P platform. Let's explore how we can transform international transitions together while making a positive impact in the communities we serve.
